Canada’s land border will see its first major change in over a year since being closed in March 2020. The Canadian Government has announced that on August 9 it will allow fully vaccinated US travelers to enter Canada for any reason and without having to quarantine. However, there are quite a few rules you must be aware of:
Who will be allowed to enter from the US?
To begin with, only the US citizens and residents who are currently living in the states so if a passenger does not have a US passport or proof of residence in the US they won’t be allowed in.
Fully vaccinated?
In Canada, this will mean that at least 14 days have passed since a passenger has received both doses of one of the four Canadian-approved vaccines. This currently includes:
Pfizer-BioNTech
AstraZeneca
Moderna
Johnson & Johnson
Prior to entry, Canada still requires a covid test performed 72 hours before the flight or entry. They’ll also need to submit all their information via the ArriveCAN system.
Airport Changes:
Currently, only four Canadian airports are receiving international passenger flights – CYUL/Montreal, CYYZ/Toronto, CYYC/Calgary, and CYVR/Vancouver. But this is also changing from August 9, the list will be expanded to include the following airports:
CYHZ/Halifax
CYQB/Quebec
CYOW/Ottawa
CYWG/Winnipeg
CYEG/Edmonton.
